In life, there are a few things that feel like a total waste of money; paying my cell phone bill, putting gas in the car, and buying ink for my printer.
I did away with the first two; dramatically lowered my cell phone bill from about $110 a month for 2 gigs of data, to $50 a month for 10 gigs (STILL loving that deal), and I moved downtown, so now I don’t need a car.
It’s amazing what we can do without, once we decide that we actually WANT to do without it.
Buying ink for my printer was a small thing, but it was one of those things that really chapped me every time I had to buy new cartridges.
Printer ink can be super expensive. I don’t know about you, but I used to despise paying upwards of $65 for a black ink cartridge. And if your printer also prints in color (which most do), you’ll need to buy a color cartridge as well. The color cartridge can easily rip $90 right out of your wallet!
That’s a total of $155 for ink! That’s 5X what the printer cost! (I paid something like $40 for the printer…BRAND NEW!)
And depending on your printing needs, you could be spending that $155 every month!
That $155 a month can quickly turn into a drain. Here’s How to Save MAD Money on Printer Ink.
Earlier this year, I purchased a new printer. I bought the HP Office Jet 3830. It was cheap enough, and came with ink cartridges that had more than enough ink to get me started.
But when that ink ran out, and I had to shop for more, with ink cartridges costing upwards of $70 apiece, the printer didn’t seem so cheap anymore.
But HP has a plan called “Instant Ink”.
My monthly ink cartridges from HP
The HP Office Jet 3830 printer is a wireless printer. That means that it’s connected to your computer via WIFI.
When you enroll in HP’s “Instant Ink” program, HP sends you new ink cartridges when their system detects that you’ll be running out of ink in the not-so-distant future. When that happens, they send you an email letting you know that your next shipment of cartridges is on it’s way.
It actually takes about a week after that to receive your new ink cartridges.
And the BEST part?
HP has different levels of print options for this program. I pay $3.99 a month and that lets me print 50 pages per month. But there are other plans that let you print more, for a little bit more money per month.
In addition, HP sends you a postage paid envelope / bag, so that when your printer cartridges are empty, you simply pop them into it, and drop it into a mailbox.
This is by FAR the BEST way How to Save MAD Money on Printer Ink. I absolutely LOVE the fact that I don’t have to shell out $150 bucks for printer ink anymore. This is (in my opinion) one of the best deals out there 🙂
In addition, I really love the printer. No issues, SUPER easy to set up and use.
